Burnley College was home to the latest Maths Feast, a contest to find the brightest Maths brains in the North West.
Year 10 Students from 15 schools spent the day working out the answers to challenging Maths problems, over four gruelling rounds.
Round one echoed the famous TV show ‘Would I Lie to You’, encouraging Students to decide whether the answer provided to mathematical equations was true or false.
The young mathematicians eagerly participated the ‘Broken Calculator’ round, reviewing whether answers to mathematical problems displayed on the devices were correct.
The competition culminated with ‘Calculator Relay’, where the answers that competitors provided were a vital component in future mathematical puzzles.
This year, Pleckgate High School reigned victorious, scoring the highest amongst all schools in all four rounds for the second consecutive year.
Adrian Hall, Area Coordinator for Maths Feast commented on the success of the day:
“This year’s Maths Feast had a really nice atmosphere and as always, it was a pleasure to see lots of students coming over and working as a team to enjoy Maths”.
The competition, run by the Advanced Mathematics Support Program (AMSP), encourages aspiring mathematicians to hone their abilities while preparing for their upcoming GCSEs.
If your young person is considering studying Maths at Burnley College, they can meet our Tutors at the next Open Evening on Wednesday 7 May.
