Wherever you live in the North West and whatever transport method you choose, we can support you in finding the best route into College, advise on parking or bicycle hire/storage and help you apply for free or subsidised transport when eligible (conditions apply).

However you decided to travel to college, we can support you in finding the best route and check if you are eligible for free or subsidised transport (conditions apply).

A bus or train timetable may not exactly match your academic timetable. This is a great opportunity for you to take advantage of our free breakfasts or use one of our Active Learning Zones for independent study.

Bus Pass Routes

Lancashire

Bus passes are available for Transdev services* throughout Lancashire. Your college, evening and weekend bus travel will be covered on your bus pass.

*If you live in an area not served by Transdev, such as Fence, Rosehill or Sabden, we will help you to purchase a Lancashire County Council bus pass.

You will be able to purchase a First Bus pass, which can also be used at evenings and weekends.

How to get your bus pass for free…

If you achieve 100% attendance, we will reimburse you the full cost of your bus pass. Please note that there are two refund periods we consider each year:

Term 1 – reimbursed if you achieve 100% attendance

Term 2 & Term 3 (combined) –  reimbursed if you achieve 100% attendance in both terms.

You may also be eligible for free travel, depending on your household income (subject to conditions).

Train

Burnley is at the heart of the rail network with the town’s Central Station just minutes from campus and Manchester Road Station nearby.

A 16-25 Saver Railcard can help you save up to 1/3 off most fares, and costs £35** for a whole year. This can be purchased from any staffed ticket office or online.

You may also be eligible for a travel grant to help with train travel costs, depending on your circumstances. Please note that this support is subject to conditions:

  • You must purchase a 16-25 Saver Railcard to be eligible.
  • This support is considered where taking the bus to college instead is not an appropriate option.

University Student

Our impressive town centre Campus is within easy reach of public transport links and the North West’s motorway network and cycle routes.

By Car/Bike

There are several secure town centre car parks, situated just a couple of minutes’ walk from our Campus. A strictly limited number of day-time car park spaces are also available on application.

Free parking for all Learners is available on the College car park after 5pm.

There are secure bike lockers on Campus available for all learners for a fully-refundable deposit.

By Bus/Train

Selected Transdev services stop on Princess Way next to Burnley College.

Safe pedestrian routes into the town centre are easily accessible from College.

The BCUC Bursary (available to full-time students) offers an option of cash which you can use to cover public transport or car parking costs.

Adult Learner
