Second Burnley College Lecturer Selected as T Level Ambassador

Burnley College is proud to announce the appointment of a second Tutor as a T Level Ambassador.

Tina Anadkat, Tutor in the Division of Science, Health and Education, has been awarded the prestigious role for her commitment to shaping the future of these innovative qualifications which combine classroom learning with experience in the workplace.

The selection process to become a T Level Ambassador is thorough, assessing teaching experience, the ability to commit to research and effectively report findings.

Tina says T Levels form a key part of the future of education:

T Levels are an excellent qualification because they integrate industry standards with educational frameworks.

“As someone who has been an employer – I owned my own nursery for many years   – I understand the importance of involving employers in shaping the curriculum. I often wondered why we couldn’t be more involved in education. As employers, we can help shape the next generation of professionals.”

Tina also talks about the introduction of the new T Level qualifications:

“People generally fear change: but the only constant in life is change.

“The key to overcoming any initial fears from students and employers was engagement and education. We organised a T Level breakfast where employers were introduced to the curriculum and their roles as mentors.

“This event created a positive domino effect among employers, who began to see the value in contributing to the curriculum and providing feedback.

“This involvement gives learners real autonomy in their education, making the qualifications more effective and relevant.”

Tina’s journey to becoming a Tutor specialising in Early Years Education and Childcare and a T Level Ambassador is inspiring. Originally from Malawi, she always knew she wanted to work with children and young people.

“It seems obvious, but to do this role you have to really like children. You cannot fake this job. Every day is different, which is the beauty of childcare.”

Looking ahead, Tina is optimistic about the future of childcare and T Levels.

“The system is changing every year. We continuously review and reflect. In five to 10 years, I believe we’ll be able to look back at how we’ve helped pioneer these qualifications.

“I’m hopeful it will also raise the profile of people who work in childcare. Research shows the first five years of a child’s life are crucial for learning.

The stereotype of us being just ‘babysitters’ needs to change. We are professionals who look after people’s entire world as it develops around them.
