Lest We Forget – Burnley College takes time out to honour fallen heroes

Students and Staff at Burnley College came together to deliver a touching memorial honouring our fallen heroes.

The ceremony included an impressive display by our Uniformed Public Services Students who performed a drill march led by Andrew Powell, CEO at Healthier Heroes along with Jake Peverley, a former Student now at Greater Manchester Police.

There was a heartfelt performance of ‘I Vow to Thee My Country’ from our talented Creative Arts and Media lecturer Ruth Davies.

Daria Stan, 16, from Colne, a former student at Colne Park High and a first year Vocational Uniformed Services Student read the poem “The Flanders Field” about the poppies which now adorn the fields of Normandy where the D Day landings took place.

There was then a two-minute silence which commenced at 11am with the Last Post, to allow Students and Staff to reflect on the service and sacrifices of all those who have died serving in conflicts around the world.

The proceedings concluded with a poem read by Jake Peverley, They Shall Not Grow Old.
