Meet Kasom

Kasom Shah had always dreamt of playing football professionally but suddenly found he needed a ‘plan B’ after being hampered by injury.

Determined to focus elsewhere and find a new dream career path, Kasom rang Burnley College University Courses (BCUC) to find out which other careers he could pursue within sport.

Be inspired by Kasom’s journey and find out more by coming to one of our Advice & Guidance events.

Despite looking at lots of different universities, Kasom realised he wanted to stay close to home, his family and be able to continue his semi-professional contract with Barnoldswick FC.

Eager to find something that would fit around football training and his part-time job in retail, Kasom toured the BCUC campus and chatted to Lecturers within the School of Sport, Fitness and Public Services.

Impressed with BCUC’s brand new sport complex, Elite Athlete Programme and support from former professional coaches and sports scientists, Kasom enrolled on the BSc Sport & Exercise programme and hasn’t looked back since.

Now in his final year of degree studies, Kasom is planning to progress onto a PGCE course and dreams of becoming a teacher – something he hadn’t even considered before enrolling at BCUC.

I’ve delivered hands-on coaching sessions with local schools and sports groups. It’s been fantastic experience and really helped me to realise which areas of sport I want to focus on.
