Inspiring Blackburn – Burnley College experts help shape the futures of Blackburn pupils

A team of career experts stand behind their beautiful display.

More than 2500 Year 10s and 11s flocked to King George’s Hall in Blackburn on Wednesday (20 September) to explore their futures’ in education – and Burnley College was there to support them all the way.

Burnley College’s exceptional Student Liaison Team’s were available all-day offering advice, guidance and information as young people plan for their future careers.

They even had the opportunity to try their hand at metalwork on the College’s high-tech virtual welding machine; just one example of the cutting-edge facilities on their £115 million Campus.

Grace Warburton, School Liaison Lead at Burnley College says young people have so many questions about their futures it’s vital there are events like this:

Once upon a time it seemed much simpler. If you wanted to go to university, you did A Levels; if you wanted to go into the world of work it was BTECs and Apprenticeships.

Nowadays there are so many more opportunities and pathways, including T Levels, which combine in-College learning with real-world industry experience.

“This year we’ve had one of our first learners get their T Level results and progress to the prestigious University of Manchester, clearly demonstrating to everyone that if you have passion, dedication and determination, at Burnley College you can go anywhere.

“We’re sharing that message with the whole of Blackburn and Darwen today. Bring us your passion and we will help you unlock the career of your dreams.”

Results at Burnley College in 2023 once again helped cement its status as the Number 1 College in England* with a 99% A Level pass rate, 85% of Students achieving at least one A*-C grade and a 100% Advanced Vocational pass rate for the 20th consecutive year.

Grace added Students are also curious about many other aspects of life at College:

We also get a wide range of questions on everything from finances and how we can help with things like laptops and food, to simple questions like ‘Is there a bus to get me there?’

Burnley College has teamed up with Trans Dev and launched an exclusive free bus service for Students from Blackburn and Darwen this year after unprecedented demand.

All Students at Burnley College are entitled to free bus travel when they achieve 100% attendance.
