An inspirational and determined Burnley College Learner performed in front of record crowds to position himself in the top three at the most prestigious event in the gymnastics calendar.
Tom Phythian, 17, a former student at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, recently competed at the British Gymnastics Championship securing a bronze medal in Men’s Floor-MAG Junior Masters Apparatus Finals.
The British Gymnastics Championships took place at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on 20-23 March, which saw 20 new British Champions crowned in the Junior masters, men’s senior, women’s junior and women’s senior apparatus finals.
Tom, an Elite Athlete, is currently studying A Level Maths, Biology and Environmental Science and started gymnastics at the age of five.
The Elite Athlete Programme – a programme designed by professional athletes for the professional athletes of the future – meant Tom had access to the very best sport facilities and coaches.
