Eyes on the skies! Burnley College gets brand new telescopes after grant from prestigious body

Students at Burnley College have been experimenting with four brand new telescopes after receiving an award from The Ogden Trust.

The four portable telescopes also come with sophisticated spectrometry equipment, which allows an even more in-depth look at exactly what the stars are made of.

As well as being used by Physics Students and people taking part in the Astronomy Enrichment Programme, the high-tech equipment will be used for Open Events and outreach activities too.

Antonion Coulton, Lecturer in Physics and Mathematics:

We plan to visit Primary Schools and invite Secondary Schools into the College in the new year.
We’re really passionate about sharing our love of astronomy and want people to see it in action.

The Ogden Trust is a charity which aims to increase the uptake of physics post-16 by supporting physics education and engagement for all young people.

The Astronomy Enrichment Programme is just one of the myriad of extra-curricular activities we have here at Burnley College. If you want to learn at a College where education extends way beyond your four classroom walls, come along to our next open event.
