About the course

Our level 2 Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health course develops the skills needed to understand mental health conditions that affect young people. You will learn about leglislation and guidance surrounding mental health, risk factors that may affect mental well-being and the impact mental health concerns have on young people and others.

The child mental health course explores the risk factors that affect a child's mental health and investigates behaviours displayed by children in need of support.

You will learn how to spot signs a child is struggling and address issues early, to help build a young persons resilience.

Unit 1 – Understand the Principles of Mental Health Concerns in the Context of Children and Young People
Unit 2 – Legislation and Best Practice Relating to Children and Young People’s Mental Health
Unit 3 – Living with Childhood Mental Health Conditions
Unit 4 – Understand how to Minimise Risk of Mental Health Concerns in Children and Young People
Unit 5 – Understand Causes and Diagnosis of Mental Health Concerns in Children and Young People

Assessment

On this course you will be assessed regularly and will complete knowledge questions to demonstrate your acquired knowledge and skills. For each unit a set of knowledge questions are issued as the formal assessment for that unit. You complete this through the online learning platform and receive written feedback from our expert tutor. There is the option to complete this paper based should it be required. You will need to pass all units and ensure your answers to the questions meet the required assessment criteria.

Careers & Progression

Progression from this course may lead you to enrolling on an Early Years course or Teaching Assistant course. You may also consider a counselling course to further develop your skills
