About the course

This course offers knowledge, skills and behaviours in all aspects of health, care, early years and education to begin to prepare you for the sector.  The course covers themes in working with families, professional development and holistic care which supports you to develop skills and knowledge around children, young people and adults. Your studies will help you develop your self-confidence, develop skills and wider knowledge of the care sector ready for your academic progression.

Entry Requirements

Two GCSEs at Grade 2 or above.

Modules

You will complete a range of modules which will support your transferable skills in the sector and prepare you for progression on to a Level 1 course. 

Assessment

The vocational diploma is assessed via coursework where you will create a portfolio of evidence. Maths and English will be assessed via an exam either for Functional Skills or GCSE

Careers & Progression

On successful completion of this course you may progress to a Level 1 Diploma in Vocation Studies (health and Child Studies). This 1 year course will support your progression onto a more specific pathway in health and social care, health science or early years and education. Careers that this course may lead to include child care nursery nurse, teaching assistant, community nurse in health and social care or care assistant.

Enrichment Activities

Previous enrichment has included: Forest school experience and health simulation sessions, Early Years simulation sessions, guest talks by employers in the sector, sessions led by industry experts to allow experiences in health, science and early years careers, volunteering opportunities and work-related skills sessions such as preparing for interviews and CV writing.
