About the course

T Levels are for young people who are academically strong and ambitious to get ahead in high-level technical occupations. You will spend time in the classroom and state of the art health simulation environments in college as well as completing mandatory 315 hours of placement in a suitable placement across the 2 years of study.   T level tutors include industry specialists with previous careers in the health sector.  There are 3 core elements to a T-Level programme: Core ACADEMIC scientific skills in Biology and Anatomy & Physiology as well as developing knowledge and understanding of the healthcare sector. You will also gain INDUSTRY SPECIALIST skills and knowledge in Healthcare. Year 1 1 Core - knowledge and understanding of contexts, concepts and theories of health industry which includes, working in the health and science sector, health , safety and environmental regulations in the health and science sector, managing information and data within the health and science sector, good scientific and clinical practice, core science concepts, the healthcare science sector, providing person centered care, health and wellbeing, further science concepts, health and safety regulations applicable to the healthcare sector, infection prevention and control in health specific settings, managing personal information, English , math's and digital skills needed in the health sector. 2 Employer set project: a project set by health specialists that enables you to apply your knowledge to a real life situation in the health industry. 3 industry placements, you will work with a health provider to apply your knowledge and develop your technical skills in a real life health setting. Year 2 Opportunity to specialise in either- Supporting the Adult Nursing Team or Supporting the Midwifery Team, where you will study overall care needs to ensure comfort and wellbeing, assist registered health professionals with clinical and therapeutic tasks and interventions, psychological measurements, clinical tasks, meeting daily needs, care.

Entry Requirements

At least five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above in a good range of subjects, including Mathematics, English and Science. A clear motivation to pursue a career in healthcare. A successful interview with a tutor The ability to study independently Excellent communication skills Hardworking & resilient.

Assessment

You will be assessed by a combination of exam assessment, project work and synoptic assessment. Core Knowledge - Year 1 Overall core component grade (A* to E and U) 2 papers - 70% weighting. Employer set Project (ESP) - 30% weighting. Study includes: Science core element - This is assessed by written examination. Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Pathway core element - this covers working in the health sector. This is assessed by written examination. Subjects you will study include: Working in the Health and Science Sector Good Scientific and Clinical Practice Infection prevention and control Safeguarding Diseases and disorders of the human body Occupational specialism - Year 2 Supporting the Adult Nursing team - synoptic assessment to achieve a distinction/merit/pass. Topics you will study to develop occupational competence could include: - assisting the adult nursing team with clinical tasks. - Supporting individuals to meet activities of daily living - assist with skin integrity assessments and with the care and treatment of skin conditions. Industrial placement experience - students are required to complete a minimum of 315 hours industry placement.

Careers & Progression

Progression on to University to study BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult), BSc (Hons) Nursing (Children & Young People) or other relevant degrees, you can also enter employment and use your skills and knowledge to start working in the health sector or undertake an Apprenticeship.

Enrichment Activities

Students have the opportunity to engage with multiple activities designed to enrich their time at college and to develop skills and knowledge that fall outside of the specification.  Additional subject-specific activities and visits are organised to bring learning to life and help you to achieve your ambitions. You will also enjoy seminars and workshops led by guest speakers. Past and planned activities and visits have included: Dental Technician taster days at Bolton University, Pendleside Hospice day trip, University of Cumbria taster day, as well as a variety of guest speakers.
