About the course
Gain the skills and knowledge to kickstart your career in
Health and Science on the T Level in Healthcare Science. Learners will be
provided with an abundance of knowledge of fundamental scientific principles
such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Anatomy and Physiology, as well as
learning industry specific skills such as infection control and what it’s like
to work within the health and science sector.
You will also complete a mandatory 315 hours of placement in a suitable
setting across the 2 years of study. Studying a T Level in Healthcare Science
will help you develop skills and professional behaviours that could lead to
exciting careers.

Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including English, Mathematics and Science or a relevant Level 2
qualification.
Modules
In their first year on the course, students will cover core elements in working within the health and science sector, including physics, chemistry, biology and anatomy & physiology. These will equip them with the knowledge and skills to complete externally assessed exams, including an employer set project that assess skills that mimic industry related situations. In their second year on the course, students will complete occupational specialist elements covering knowledge and skills that work towards completing internal and external synoptic assessments.
Assessment
You will be assessed by a combination of exam assessment, project work and synoptic assessment. Core Knowledge - Year 1 Overall core component grade (A* to E and U) 2 papers - 70% weighting. Employer set Project (ESP) - 30% weighting. Study includes: Science core element - This is assessed by written examination. Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Pathway core element - this covers working in the health and science sector. This is assessed by written examination. Subjects you will study include: Working in the Health and Science Sector Good Scientific and Clinical Practice Infection prevention and control Safeguarding Diseases and disorders of the human body Occupational specialism - Year 2 Assisting with Healthcare Science - synoptic assessment to achieve a distinction/merit/pass. Topics you will study to develop occupational competence could include: Assist with physiological measurements Assist with specimen collection & point of care testing Specimen analysis Industrial placement experience - students are required to complete a minimum of 315 hours industry placement.

Enrichment Activities
You will have the opportunity to engage with multiple
activities designed to enrich your time at College and to develop skills and
knowledge that fall outside the specification. Additional subject-specific
activities and visits bring learning to life and help you to achieve your
ambitions. You will also enjoy seminars and workshops led by guest speakers.
Past and planned activities and visits have included: Dental Technician taster
days at Bolton University, Pendleside Hospice day trip, University of Cumbria
taster days.
