About the course

The level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner is a one year course which is designed to allow you to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work in early years. The 4 themes will engage and support you on your journey, providing you with knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years with applied knowledge in the early years. This, along with industry experience in early years settings and primary schools offers the foundations of a career in early childhood.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language or Mathematics at grade 4 OR a relevant Level 1 Diploma with a Merit grade or above and a GCSE at grade 4 in English Language or Mathematics. This course is subject to a cleared enhanced DBS check.

Assessment

The course is assessed through internally and externally assessed coursework over varied themes. This will include case studies, information booklets, essays and discussion based exercises. Your practical performance will also be assessed on a regular basis in your early years’ settings. You will be required to carry out a work placement of at least 250 hours which Burnley College will organise.

Careers & Progression

Learners can progress to a level 3 qualification course or they can go straight into employment as a level 2 early years practitioner.

 During the course, students have the opportunities to engage with a range of activities designed to enrich their time at college. These enrichment sessions will allow you to develop skills for the sector in fun and engaging sessions which are organised to bring learning to life and support your development and progression.
