About the course

What do we mean by crime? How do experts and politicians explain crime and criminality? We tend to judge others’ behaviour by our moral principles – but these are not always consistent and based on accurate information. Criminology is the science or discipline that examines crime and criminal behaviour and the processes through which the justice system responds. Explore how the media impacts on the public’s perceptions of crime, what happens between the crime scene and the court room and how and why offenders are punished. Draw on the research of sociologists, psychologists and legal scholars to examine the nature, causes and consequences of behaviour. This popular course will give you a sharp insight into the different types of crime.
