About the course
This course allows you to earn a full GCSE in Biology, fulfilling the science requirement for careers such as midwifery, nursing, or primary school teaching. It covers many topics relevant to today's society, including Genetics, Ecology and Infection and Response.
The course involves both classroom learning and lab-based teaching, offering opportunities to participate in multiple practical's throughout the year.
This is a year-long evening course starting in September, with exams scheduled in May/June. Exam dates are set externally by AQA.

Modules
Paper 1: Topics 1–4: Cell Biology, Organisation, Infection and Response, Bioenergetics.
- Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes
- Foundation and Higher Tier
- 100 marks
- 50% of GCSE
Paper 2: Topics 5–7: Homeostasis and Response, Inheritance, Variation and Evolution, Ecology.
- Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes
- Foundation and Higher Tier
- 100 marks
- 50% of GCSE
Assessment
There will be two 1hr 45 min written exams at the end of the academic year.
Careers & Progression
A GCSE in Biology will provide you with a key qualification respected by many Higher Education establishments. Courses such as Midwifery, Nursing and Primary Education often list GCSE Biology (Or alternative Science) as a key requirement of study prior to entry.

No specialist equipment is required for this course, aside from a calculator. Lab coats can be purchased through Wisepay.

All specialised equipment needed for experiments will be provided. You will need to purchase a scientific calculator and ruler, and it is recommended that you purchase the course text book. Discounts for this will be made available at the start of the course
