About the course
This pre-advanced course is for those who are either working in an accounting or finance environment, or for those who are looking to move into this sector by learning about basic costing, computerised bookkeeping - processing and control, banking systems and using accounting software.
Upon completion of this course, you could progress onto further study with our Advanced Level 3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting or you could progress within industry, working as an Accounts Administrator, Accounts Assistant, Trainee Finance Assistant, Purchase/Sales Ledger Clerk, Accounts Payable Clerk.
We work with a number of local employers who support a number of learners on this course including Fort Vale, Exertis, and independent Chartered Accountants.
On this pre-advanced course, you will be assessed through four external examinations which cover each of the core topics and one final synoptic assessment where you will bring all of your knowledge from this course together. These assessments will prepare you for further study at advanced level or for a role within industry.

Entry Requirements
You should possess good numeracy and literacy skills; ideally having achieved a grade A-C or 9-4 or functional skills level 2 in these areas. You will participate in an interview/assessment which will determine your skills and suitability of this course.
Modules
On this pre-advanced course, you will study basic costing, computerised bookkeeping, working effectively in accounting and finance, processing bookkeeping transactions, and control accounts journals and banking systems.
Assessment
You will complete knowledge check assessments with your tutor at numerous points throughout your course to ensure you're ready to progress with your external exams. You will be formally assessed through four external examinations which cover each of the core topics and one final synoptic assessment where you will bring all of your knowledge from this course together. These assessments will prepare you for further study at advanced level or for a role within industry. You will have at least one additional attempt for each formal assessment. However, you may be subject to an additional charge for this.

Equipment Needed
You will need basic equipment for academic study including basic stationary, a scientific calculator and the option of a laptop or Chromebook which you can use as part of your studies. There are also a number of industry texts available

We will provide you with your AAT membership and entry to your initial exams. You will also have access to outstanding classroom facilities which boast comfortable and spacious rooms with access to the digital software for this course.
