Entry Requirements
Level 3 qualification in a related construction sector industry, such as brickwork, joinery or plastering. National Diploma or HNC in a related subject. BSc (Hons) Technology (Foundation Entry). Relevant work experience will also be considered. All applicants will need to demonstrate GCSE Maths and English with a minimum grade C or equivalent qualification. Mature applicants who do not meet these entry criteria are welcome and will be assessed on an individual basis. All applicants will be interviewed to ascertain the relevant experiential background necessary to undertake the course. Accreditation of prior certificated or experiential learning against some of the course modules will be considered.
Modules
Mandatory Level 5 HND Units are: A Pearson-set Group Project; Contracts and Management; Project Management; Management for Complex Building Projects. Students also complete three Optional Units (including Alternative Methods of Construction) or Two Optional Units and one Specialist Unit from another pathway.
Assessment
Teaching, learning and assessment on this course has been specially designed to help students build their knowledge between modules and between academic and work-based activities. Teaching is delivered by a mixture of formal lectures by industry experts, seminars, workshops, case studies and field visits, all supported by live project work to put theory into practice. Leading figures in the Construction industry give insightful and innovative lectures which are combined with the opportunity to attend site visits and presentations given by specialists within the Construction industry. Assessment involves a combination of coursework, presentation exercises and examinations which will show your industry expertise and knowledge.
Careers & Progression
On completion of this course students will have the opportunity to progress onto degree-level study. Possible careers include Site Management, Architectural Technician and Trainee Quantity Surveyor.
