About the course

This full-time course will enable you to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills to perform basic plumbing tasks, including selecting the correct tools, materials and quantities to carry out pipe bending, jointing and installation, using a wide range of materials. Studying this programme will give you the basic skills and knowledge required to progress into a career within the plumbing industry. Underpinning health and safety and working at height are essential elements of this programme. You will learn practical skills including how to solder, bend and offset copper pipes. Your study will take place in our excellent workshop facilities where you will work with our enthusiastic and knowledgeable tutors.

Entry Requirements

Two GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English and Maths or successful completion of the Work Skills for Construction Programme.

Assessment

Assessment is by BPEC practical and theory assessments completed throughout the year. Additionally, three externally-moderated exams are sat during this first year.

Careers & Progression

This course will prepare you for progression to a Level 2 plumbing qualification or an Apprenticeship. On successful completion of the course and further study, typical careers include architecture, quantity surveyor and a range of roles in the construction industry.

Enrichment Activities

You will have the opportunity to work on community projects, providing real-world work experience. Students on the course regularly compete in regional and national skills competitions with SkillBuild, SPARKS and HIPS. Extra-curricular activities also include: employer-sponsored 'Job of the Term' awards; construction site visits; entry into national trade skills competitions; excursions to national trade exhibitions; voluntary building work; visits to buildings of architectural significance.
