About the course
The Level 2 Computing and Technology is a one year course of study. The aim of the course is to inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the Technology sector and to give learners the opportunity to gain broad knowledge and develop work ready skills supporting progression to specialised Level 3 qualifications or apprenticeships. It gives learners the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment in a wide range of job roles. Within the level 2 course students will be assessed on and study a range of themes including programming, cyber security and web development. These themes are underpinned by the development of industry required skills such as problem solving, teamwork and communication You will be taught by a of team industry professionals with over 50 years of teaching experience between them. Our lessons vary between practical and theory based, allowing full use of modern computing equipment. This course also supports the development of English and mathematics.

Entry Requirements
The requirements for this course are a minimum of 3 grade 4's at GCSE. One of these grades needs to be Maths, English or English Literature.

Assessment
The assessment for this course is assessed on exams, coursework through presentations, creation of several products, such as graphics and animation, wesbites, programming applications, spreadsheets, databases and many more . There are also opportunities for volunteering/work experience and practical demonstrations. Learners get ongoing feedback throughout the coursework as well as summative feedback at the end of each unit. All coursework is assessed against criteria set for each unit, informing ideas, problem solving, technical skill, professional practice and communication. Finally assessed work is grades at pass, merit or distinction.
Careers & Progression
Upon successful completion of this course most students progress onto the level 3 Extended Diploma in Computing at Burnley College however, some may decide they would like to do an Apprenticeship. This is also an option at Burnley College.

All equipment is provided by the college.
Equipment Supplied
The college has a number of Windows PC-based computer suites installed with all the required software that can be used for all aspects of the course.
Enrichment Activities
As part of the course we are involved with a range of activities and visits. We take part in what will help you achieve your ambitions. Past visits have included: team building at Bury Arcade, tree planting as part of a social action project and numerous guest talks from local industry experts.
