About the course
Explore who you are as a theatre maker. Increase your experience of live performance and demonstrate your personal creativity, discipline, organisation and confidence by exploring the diverse range of styles of theatre, theatre practices and theatre making. Develop techniques and enhance your skills in a range of practical drama elements: Acting, Directing, Costume, Setting and Technical Design. You will work with many playwrights’ scripted texts as well as devise your own original performance work. You will investigate and apply the theory of major theatre practitioners including Brecht, Godber, Kane and Berkoff.

Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above which includes: English and Mathematics, Grade 5 in Drama or Performing Arts related subject

Modules
Component 1: Drama and Theatre. Component 2: Creating Original Drama. Component 3: Making Theatre
Assessment
Component 1: Drama and Theatre is a three hour written exam that is externally assessed. The exam will be based on your in-depth study of two plays and your thinking about a live theatre production that you will see in your second year. Component 2: Creating Original Drama centres around you devising a piece of live theatre. You will produce a working notebook that will outline your rationale for the piece with reflection on the development and refinement of your work. This is assessed by you course tutor and moderated by the exam board. Component 3: Making Theatre. You will practically explore extracts from three texts as an actor, director or designer. The final extract is performed for a public performance and is assessed by a visiting external examiner There will be continuous tutor assessment throughout the course to ensure that you are working to your full potential.

Equipment Needed
You will need to purchase set theatre texts. The details of these will be provided by your course tutor.
Equipment Supplied
You will have access to industry standard performance and rehearsal spaces. The department also provides access to high-spec video cameras, changing facilities, ballet barres, acro equipment and PCs/laptops for theory lessons.
Enrichment Activities
In addition to working on shows within College you’ll be
able to visit theatres locally, regionally and on our annual trip to London’s
West End. Watch productions both live and digitally from the National Theatre
to Frantic Assembly. International trips to New York and Los Angeles.
