About the course

This course is aimed at those who wish to undertake approved training prior to seeking a career in the gas industry. Successful completion of the course will enable you to qualify for the ACS assessments, which are required to become Gas Safe registered. In order to complete the on the job aspects of the course you need to obtain a work placement with a Gas Safe registered business that is willing to provide an extended period of company ‘in house’ gas training and organisational support prior to taking the ACS assessment. The course content will cover the following • Gas pipework and fittings • Gas safety legislation • Characteristics of combustion • Standing, operating pressure and gas rates • Positioning of emergency controls and procedures • Tightness testing and purging • Checking and setting meter regulates • Ventilation requirements • Flues • Gas safety devices and controls • Unsafe situations and notices • Re-establishing gas supplies • Gas appliances (primarily domestic fires, boilers, cookers and water heaters

Entry Requirements

This programme is aimed at Category 3 operatives who have little or no prior experience in the plumbing and gas industry. Trainees who lack gas training and experience will need to hold a recognised qualification in the mechanical services engineering sector (e.g. plumbing) or they must hold a minimum of 2 GCSE’s at grade C or above (or equivalent).

Assessment

This course is assessed via the completion of a candidate portfolio for on and off the job training, plus four multiple choice theory examinations.  A validation process is completed leading to the BPEC Foundation Gas qualification.

Careers & Progression

Completion of this course will enable you to qualify for the ACS assessments which are required to become Gas Safe registered as it is essential as a Domestic Gas practitioner to be Gas Safe registered. Careers that this course may lead to include self-employed gas engineer or a career woking within the gas industry.
