About the course

Develop your skills to thrive and achieve your full musical potential. This qualification covers a vast range of areas that are linked to music industry skills and also aligned to the requirements of the advanced courses. These areas include exploring music, professional development, self-promotion in the music industry, music performance, music production, creating music and a music project. This project provides flexibility for you to further explore a particular area of  your own musical interest. The course is open to both instrumental and non-instrumental ‘producers’. It allows for the skills development of both performance and production pathways, with lots of shared collaborative projects that will provide a well-rounded set of music industry skills.

Entry Requirements

Three GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English and Mathematics or a relevant Level 1 qualification.
GCSE Music (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.

Exploring Music, Professional Development, Self-promotion in the Music Industry, Music Performance, music Production, Music Project

Assessment

There are no exams on this qualification. The course is 100% coursework and comprises of practical and written work. Depending on the nature of the unit being studied assessment could include: the creation of original music, demonstration of live performance skills, research and presentation work, the production of studio recordings, a portfolio of technical skills. The Music Project module is an internal synoptic assessment, this is aimed at testing your' ability to respond to a 'real-life' situation

Careers & Progression

You may choose to progress to a Level 3 Music course, or a related Level 3 Course such as Performing Arts and Media.

Additional Details

Equipment Needed

Good quality (not expensive), over-ear headphones with a 3.5mm jack connection are essential. Performers will be expected to bring their instrument and related musical equipment to practical sessions.


Equipment Supplied

You will have access to an Apple Mac suite running the latest industry-standard music software alongside a multi-function recording studio and range of practice rooms.


Enrichment Activities

You will be supported to pursue your own creative projects and ventures, using our recording studios to have extra access to resources and software to write, rehearse and produce your own music. You will also enjoy industry-related trips and masterclasses throughout the year.
