About the course

Gain an overview of the Emergency and Military Services, as you prepare for a career in the Uniformed Services. You will be expected to participate fully in practical fitness activities, undertaking a varied range of fitness assessments required to enter the services, understand the basics of discipline through a range of theory and practical activities and develop essential employability skills including teamwork, communication, punctuality and navigational skills by engaging in exciting expeditions. You will develop knowledge applicable to all services, exploring behaviour, media, major incidents and volunteering to prepare yourself for working life within this sector.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including English and Mathematics or a relevant Level 2 qualification.

Modules

The course gives you the necessary skills and knowledge to understand the requirements of working in the Uniformed Public Services. The course will include preparing for a career, exploring the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion, understanding conflict management and personal protection, understanding discipline and self-discipline, exploring security procedures across various Services, taking part in volunteering to develop communication skills, developing physical and mental fitness by researching and participating in fitness assessments and land-based activities to enter and work within a Uniformed Service, enhancing current skills in leadership and teamwork by being disciplined to follow a routine, being aware of the role of crime scene investigators, valuing the importance of collaboration between Uniformed Services, developing awareness of the impact the law and legal system has on Uniformed Services, understanding emergency planning and the response of the Uniformed Services and carrying out expeditions to improve map and navigation skills.

Assessment

Assessment across the Level 3 course is varied to develop key skills required to enter a Uniformed Service. These methods can include the following: coursework, active learning tasks, practical learning tasks, case studies, reports, role plays, discussions, table top exercises and presentations. Assessment is varied based on the units studied with the overall aim of developing a well rounded individual ready to progress to a higher level of study or employment. You will be assessed continually throughout the academic years to track progress and development.

Enrichment Activities

Past trips have included an Army residential, Navy and Marines residential, Fire and Rescue Service visit, RAF team building and Police visit. There will also be opportunities to travel London to visit the Houses of Parliament.
