About the course

Film Studies seeks to understands how films are constructed to have a deep emotional effect on us. A Level Film Studies will deepen your understanding of varying film genres and eras in both Hollywood and Independent cinema. You’ll see which films look familiar simply because they have an actor you recognised, you’ll build your analytical skills including cinematography, mise-en-scene and narrative by exploring two Hollywood films from the 1930 to 1990 era and then a contemporary American independent film. A European component gives you the opportunity to produce a storyboard and screenplay which is important for potential further study applications.
