Husna found the transition from GCSEs to T Levels very different. The former Al Islah Girls High School student was surprised at how hands on it is:
“I thought when you go to College it’s just listening to your Tutor and writing. In our sessions, half the lesson is writing, then it’s presentations, role play and real-life experience using the mannequins. It makes me want to come in to class again and again.”
She found that her T Levels provided the vital real life experience she will need for the future like CPR, resuscitation and confidence.
“I didn’t like speaking in front of people. Now I speak in front of people every day.”
Her work placement was at Burnley Hospital in Eye Theatre. She was able to experience cataract operations, recovery, working with dementia patients and physiotherapy. She also spent time on the Children’s Ward, taking children to surgery, playing with them to reduce their anxiety and taking bloods.
One of her favourite parts of her placement was Rainbows; children with Autism and ADHD. She assisted in sensory play, looking at how their autism affects different types of play.
Her career ambition is to specialise working with children in a medical setting; either as Children’s Nurse, in Maternity or Midwifery. Her next step is to take on bank shifts in the hospital to complement her studies and progress to university.
