Ambitious Science, Health and Education Students competed in series of activities and skills test covering care routines, enabling environments, and communication and language for children, simulating the expertise required in their future careers.
After three days of competing, the top spot was taken by Level 3 Education and Childcare Student Serat Fatima, 18 from Burnley, a former Student at Sir John Thirsby Community College who was placed first overall, with 17-year-old Ella Bentley from Accrington, former Student of Mount Carmel RC High School who now studies Level 3 Education and Childcare in second place. T Level Education and Early Years Student Evie Ross, 16 from Burnley, former Student at Sir John Thirsby Community College finished third.
The competition was judged by Jade Taylor, Manager at Giant Leap Nursery and Karen Gordon, Head Teacher at Reedley Hallows Nursery School who were very impressed with all of the competitors.
The intense contest saw Students judged on key skills that are required to excel in their industry which included:
Health and safety (risk assessing)
Planning and creativity
Teamwork and collaboration
Communication and presentation skills
Knowledge of the areas of development and early years.
Burnley College Early Years Tutor Michaela Davis said she was impressed with the high standards displayed by the Students:
