Over 80 competitors from local Colleges competed amongst the best Early Years Students throughout Lancashire to be crowned winners.
The Early Years competition was proudly hosted on Burnley College’s impressive Campus, with rounds taking place in the Early Years Learning Environment and the leafy surround of the new Industry Hub.
The team of judges included business leaders and experts from the Early Years field.
Our own talented Early Years Students took on Nelson and Colne College, Blackburn College, Blackpool and the Fylde College, Runshaw College, West Lancashire College, Lancaster and Morecambe College and Preston College in a series of rounds to test Students’ creative thinking, problem-solving and developmental knowledge.
The day began with the ‘Create a Resource’ challenge, measuring competitors’ ability to think on their feet to create resources for a given case study.
The next round gave Students the opportunity to plan and lead a circle time activity, showcasing their productivity under pressure in planning an effective feedback activity.
The afternoon saw competitors’ skills put to the test as they were given our high-tech baby simulators which they had to successfully care for, following best practice.
The final task of the day allowed Students to venture outdoors for the Forest School activity, with the brief of assigning personalities to trees utilising resources. This tested their skills in using storytelling to communicate child development to their subjects.
Our Students secured 2nd place in the challenging competition, where teams from Blackburn College and Blackpool and the Fylde College shared the win.
The Early Years Competition is part of the Lancashire Colleges’ Skills Competition Programme 2025. This year’s programme is sponsored by the NOCN Group and Lancashire Skills Hub.
