Burnley College Hosts Annual Competition for Aspiring Engineers

Burnley College welcomed Year 9 and 10 students from 12 schools across Lancashire to compete in the annual Enjoyneering competition.

Future Engineers spent the day competing against each other in four tough Engineering challenges, which included constructing catapults and building a wooden re-model of a family home.

48 students participated in further challenges, assembling bridges and creating ‘cars’, with balloons and other limited equipment.

Enjoyneering is a fun competition which introduces learners to the broad range of sectors that Engineering covers and the contest inspires next generation of engineers and encourages them to study this in the future.

Upon completion of the designing, problem-solving, calculations and analysis of each round, scores for each team were added up.

This year, The Valley Leadership Academy triumphed, earning the highest overall score of the day.

Dave Coar, Engineering Tutor and co-organiser commented on the events’ continued success:

The activities that the students took part in ensured that these talented young engineers developed the skills required to be well rounded individuals and to succeed in Engineering. At Burnley College, we believe in building futures and changing lives, which this event does.”

Claire Shackleton, Careers Lead at St Bede’s RC High school expressed gratitude for the event and is eagerly awaiting the event next year:

Enjoyneering was a brilliant event as usual, as are all the events that Burnley College hosts and this event inspired students to consider Engineering and their next steps after school. Roll on next year!”

If your young person is considering studying Engineering, they can meet our Tutors and learn more about the course at the next Open Evening on Wednesday 7 May.
